Training Days 2017 Presenters

Congratulations on being chosen to speak at RMOUG Training Days 2017 – the largest and best grassroots regional Oracle user group conference! We are looking forward to another successful conference and appreciate your contribution of knowledge and expertise. The following information is designed to assist you in preparing to present at RMOUG Training Days 2017.

RMOUG is committed to making Training Days environmentally friendly. We do not provide paper handouts of slide presentations. All presentation decks will be available for download, via the online Schedule Builder, prior to the conference.

Speaker Confirmation

To confirm your speaking engagement, please register for Training Days 2017 by November 15, 2016. If you do not register by November 15, we will assume you are unable to present. Please use the code TDPR2017 when you are prompted for the registration code. If you have a Twitter handle, please enter it on the registration form so that we can promote your participation at Training Days 2017.

Every room will be equipped with an LCD projector and a wireless lavalier microphone. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN COMPUTER. If you need additional equipment, please email rmougspeakers@teamycc.com.

Speaking Guidelines

Below are suggestions to ensure a successful presentation:

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare: Your audience will appreciate a well-prepared lecture. Organize your thoughts, write them down, and rehearse your presentation. Make sure you pace your presentation to get your most important points into the time available.

No Commercialism Allowed: Under no circumstances, with the exception of Vendor Presentations, should the session podium be used to promote your company’s products, services, or monetary self-interest. Your audience is paying for your educational insights, not for an infomercial. They become highly offended when a presentation shifts to a marketing focus. RMOUG reserves the right to stop any presentation on the spot if the speaker insists on presenting a sales pitch. Any speaker who gives a commercial presentation will not be asked to participate in future conferences.

Examples: Your audience wants hard facts, case studies, and real-world scenarios — something solid, not generalizations. Teach them how to solve a problem. Explain how things work. They want practical information that will help them do their jobs better.

Stick to Your Topic: Attendees come to your lecture expecting to learn content based on the session description in the conference brochure. You will succeed and be appreciated by meeting audience expectations.

Use Visual Aids: Use PowerPoint slides or other visual aids, such as live or simulated demos, to illustrate and embed your topic in your audience’s memories.

Slide Preparation

RMOUG Training Days is a green conference and will not be making copies or handouts, but we will have them posted on the Schedule Builder for paid participants to print as they choose. Speakers have the ability to add and update their documents at their leisure.

Please be sure to follow the guidelines below when preparing your slides:

The TITLE should be the same as the presentation title in the conference brochure and program. Not sure about the title? Contact rmougspeakers@teamycc.com.

The standard slide aspect ratio is 16:9. If your slides are in a different format, please let us know. 

Do not use page numbers on your slides.

Bullet point format is suggested.

Font size should be no smaller than 24 points.

Fancy fonts can be hard to read.

Words in all capital letters are hard to read.

Too many slides can lose your audience. The rule of thumb is no more than one slide per two minutes (thirty slides for an hour presentation).

Slides with overlapping, animated, or 3D effects may not print clearly. Dark background colors are also hard to see when printed. A good practice is to try printing your slides in pure black and white. This allows you to make sure all text and graphics are legible before you submit your presentation. RMOUG Training Days is green, but attendees may want to print presentations.

Instructions to Upload Documents

Go to the following url:

Log in by entering your e-mail address and password you created when you originally submitted your abstract (THIS IS NOT YOUR REGISTRATION PASSWORD). Click the “E-mail Password” button if you cannot remember your password. If you continue to have issues receiving your password or logging in, please contact rmougspeakers@teamycc.com.

Once you are logged in, you will see the name of the abstract(s) you have submitted. Click on the “Documents” button to the left of the abstract title for which you would like to upload a document.

Click on the “Add Document” button to upload a document file.

Click on the “Browse” button and find the file that you wish to upload. Presentations should have a file name of PresenterLastName_presentation. If you have more than one presentation, the file name should be PresenterLastName_presentation2 for the second presentation.

You should upload a PDF version of your presentation.

VERY IMPORTANT: At the drop down box, choose the file type that you are uploading, i.e. Presentation.

Click on the “Upload Document” button.

When you have completed uploading your document(s), click the “Abstract List” button to save your changes and return to the prior page.

Please note that by uploading your presentation(s), you are giving RMOUG permission to publish these documents through the online Schedule Builder. You are also giving RMOUG permission to post these documents to the RMOUG website after the conference has ended.

Removal of a Document:

To remove the old version of a presentation, click on the “Delete” button to the left of the abstract information. Click on the “Continue” button to finish the deletion. Click on “Display Document” to view the uploaded file.

Download the Speaker Button

Encourage your friends and colleagues to attend your presentation and promote RMOUG Training Days by adding the RMOUG Speaker Button to your website, blog posts, and emails. This is an easy way to raise Training Days’ profile as an event, as well as your own profile as a presenter.
