“Building a Demo Project Application’ Hands-On Lab Workshop”
David Peake – Oracle Application Express (APEX) Product Manager

This tutorial for Oracle® Application Express release 5.0 (Application Express) demonstrates how to build a working application for managing projects and tasks using some of the latest features of Application Express 5.0. This exercise assumes no prior knowledge of Application Express.

This lab can also be utilized for migrating your application development from one environment to another, such as from on-premise to the cloud.

Your team tracks projects you are currently working on. Rather than using a spreadsheet or some commercial project tracking tool you have been tasked with building a Web application so that the team has a custom application that meets everyone’s requirements. The DBA has created a script which creates various tables and populates them with the current data.

In this first workshop you quickly build a simple application that allows everyone to maintian the data. There is also a second “advanced” workshop where you greatly improve the application and utilize a number of advanced techniques to make a very polished application.

1. Please sign-up for a work space on http://apex.oracle.com prior to the session.
2. Download the lab zip file: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/apex-basic-demo-projects-2848024.zip (File available from http://apex.oracle.com/hols)

David PeakePresenter: David Peake, after 13 years within Oracle Consulting in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, he joined the Product Development team as the Oracle Application Express (APEX) Product Manager.

Within consulting his primary focus was on large Custom Development projects. Four years ago he started working on a very large project, using APEX (or Project Marvel as it was called then). Before that he primarily developed applications using Oracle Forms and Designer.
