Description of Work Unit: The Department of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness reports to the Provost, and is responsible for collecting, maintaining, organizing, and preserving institutional data from Systems of Record and other sources as appropriate. The Department produces official and unofficial reports using institutional data, and provides ad hoc analyses of institutional data upon request, especially in support of the President’s and Provost’s Offices, and other offices, as staffing and workloads allow. A number of scheduled reports, including enrollment, credit hour production, class size, degrees conferred, graduation rates, retention rates and University fact publications, are produced on a regular basis, and published on the Department’s web site. The Department works with others at the University who maintain data in Systems of Records to ensure the data are accurate, consistent and accessible for reporting purposes.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for designing, developing, documenting and configuring custom web-based reporting solutions using primarily Oracle tools. In addition, it is responsible for providing programming support for the office as well as producing ad-hoc data/reports for our stakeholders, including external entities, such as CDHE, National Clearing House, etc. This position should be able to use discretion and creativity to solve problems and anticipate/analyze the consequences of their decisions.

Required Job Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of Oracle database and its client toolsets such as SQL* Plus, and PL/SQL.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related fields.
• 5+ years of experience in an Oracle environment
• Proven ability to solve unique database problems with creative, collaborative and thoughtful solutions, including writing complex SQL queries, performance tuning, and coding using PL/SQL
• Prior experience with writing ETL procedures
• Proven ability to work independently or as an integral member of a team
• Demonstrated effective written communication
• Attention to detail, high productivity, and focus on quality
• Adherence to deadlines and ability to proactively follow-up on open items in a time-sensitive manner

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Prior work in Higher Education
• Prior work in an Institutional Research office
• Experience with database modeling in a Business Intelligence environment
• Experience with BI Publisher
