If you did not have a chance to attend this popular webinar in January, we are repeating it to set the stage for the rest of the series. Learn to create and deliver engaging, lively webinars that incorporate active learning strategies intended to increase content comprehension and keep viewers’ attention. Excellent live presentation skills do not necessarily transfer to dynamic virtual presentations. Any professional wanting to enhance the quality and caliber of their trainings, in an online environment should attend this webinar. Regardless of if you are unfamiliar with creating and delivering webinars or simply want to sharpen your existing skills, this webinar is for you.

NEW – How to Effectively Select, Organize and Evaluate Webinar Content – July 31
When creating a webinar, it is important to decide what content to include, what content to exclude, what format to use, how to organize the format and what learning activities will work best. Attendees of this webinar will learn how to effectively select, organize and evaluate webinar content by taking a deeper dive into the content components of the webinar creation process.

NEW – How to Create a Purposeful, Interactive Webinar Handout – August 21
Providing a participation handout is a key ingredient to a well-designed webinar. However, by simply providing a printout of the presentation slides, you may miss an opportunity to interact with attendees and solidify their learning. This webinar will teach you how to create a purposeful, interactive handout that will direct the attendee to the intended goal and increase content retention.

A Leap of Faith: Upgrading a Hyperion Environment at Catholic Health Initiatives
Ross B Kimball, Manager, Financial Systems Integration, Catholic Health Initiatives

The challenges of upgrading from 9.3.1 to 11.1.2.1 are many, but there are none that can’t be overcome. Some of the challenges are substantial, such as the migration from EAS to Calc Manager, or the migration of the user community to the new SmartView. And some challenges are more subtle such as the migration of Planning forms and Financial Reports. My presentation will guide users through some of our key lessons learned during the upgrade, and detail out what I consider to be best practices for any Hyperion upgrade.

9:25 am – 10:25 am
Three Types of Table Compression
Tim Gorman, Independent Consultant, Evergreen Database Technologies, Inc.

There are several types of table compression in Oracle database, and so the question must arise: which are most appropriate, based on what requirements? Why are there different methods, which ones work for what situation, and why?

We will discuss all the different types of table data compression in Oracle database (i.e. basic/advanced de-duplication compression and hybrid-columnar compression), as well as some older often-forgotten techniques for fitting more data into less space. The presentation will begin with a brief review of data compression in general, followed by a review of the formats used for storage in database blocks and rows, the latter supported by block dumps. All leads to a knowledgeable discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each type of table compression in Oracle. At the end, we get to the subject of the talk, which is a form of compression which has always existed within Oracle database, but which can only be exploited when you know how data is stored internally.

9:10 am – 9:55 am
Using EIS and EAS to dynamically refresh Essbase cubes
Qingchen Chen, Hyperion Applications Analyst, Berry Petroleum Company

Berry Petroleum Company uses Essbase cubes for reporting on Financial, Capital Spending and Production data. We need to refresh all 3 BSO cubes automatically each night. EIS (Essbase Integration Services) is used to refresh Essbase outlines from Oracle source. Load rule is used to load data to Essbase via SQL interface. Automation is scheduled via MAXL scripting.

10:05 am – 10:50 am
Hyperion Tips & Tricks for Maintaining a Steady and Proficient Environment
Lester Trough, Senior Consultant Manager of IT and Support, Abeam Consulting

With the complex nature of Hyperion come a variety of issues which often lead to poor performance which will plaguing your Hyperion environment, along with your end users and IT department. In this presentation we will show you a few key tips & tricks which you will be able to implement within your Hyperion environment to enhance performance.

10:35 am – 11:35 am
The new 12c kid on the block
Peter Sharman, Oracle, Principal Product Manager

This presentation introduces the new Oracle Database 12c functionality

OBIEE and Essbase Jointed at the Hip
Sohel Jeelani, Sr. Sales Consultant, Oracle

OBIEE has been supporting Oracle Essbase as a physical data source since the early 10g versions but now the integration between the two has become seamless. Going forward Oracle intends to tie them together even tighter so that BI content that can be deployed to a broad user audience through Oracle BI Dashboards, Analyses.

11:45 am – 12:45 pm
WIT Session: “The Imposter Syndrome- When Successful Women Feel Like Frauds”
Kellyn Pot’Vin, Enkitec, Senior Technical Consultant

What is Imposter or Fraud Syndrome? Why people feel this way, (source of the feelings). How to deal with situations to ensure fraud syndrome doesn’t impede a women from her goals.

The popular and successful actress Tina Fey, Facebook COO and author Sheryl Sandberg, among others, have all admitted to experiencing this. Research has shown, men often judge themselves consistently as performing better than their actual performance and women do the opposite. Georgia University psychologists, Pauline Rose Clance and Sue Imes started to use the term “Imposter Syndrome” back in 1978 when referring to those that were susceptible to this, but recognized women suffered from it more often. Why do highly successful women feel like imposters or frauds? This session will discuss how women can overcome and deal with the feelings involved with this phenomenon to keep it from holding them back in their goals.

11:55 am – 12:40 pm
When problems arise, often the administrator is expected to, not only identify, but also correct the problem without impact and in short order. This presentation goes over a number of common Oracle errors and performance issues, showing what tools, tracing to AWR reports, along with how to utilize these to quickly assess a strategy to address problems when they develop to lessen the challenge to managing these types of environments.

Attendees will leave the session with a better understanding of trouble-shooting techniques and when to use what features, tools and reports to address issues.

Almost everyone has heard of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Some people can accurately describe what it is and isn’t. This introductory session will cover:

• What is SOA?
• What are the business problems solved by implementing SOA?
• Oracle’s SOA Suite
• Demo of a sample business process using SOA Suite
• SOA Case Study

11:45 am – 12:45 pm
CTO’s Perspective on Adding Geo-spatial and Location-Based Information to Your Data
Bradley Brown, CEO/CTO @ InteliVideo

There is a considerable amount of free geo-spatial data available from the government and open source groups. This information can be quite helpful at providing more information about location-based data. For example, if you’re a property management company and you wanted to know close each of your properties are for anything from grocery stores to railroad tracks to flood plains, all of this information is available. If you wanted to know which homes are on a specific golf course, this data is available for free too.

In this presentation, Brad will share what geo-spatial data is available, where you can download the data, and what you might use the information for. You can also create your own layers of information and merge this into your queries. All of this can be done using an Oracle database (even the free version of Oracle) – i.e. without a mapping tool like ESRI. You can easily overlay this information onto Google maps or Google Earth. Brad will share PL/SQL code that will extract shapes into KML
