Roles of the Board of Directors

President
The president is the principal executive officer of the users group, and is responsible for the overall operation, management, and strategic direction of the users group.  This position is, in general, responsible for the supervision and control of the affairs of the group.  This position is responsible for the promotion of the users group and users group activities to individuals and organizations external to the group and establishing and maintaining relationships and/or alliances with other individuals and organizations of interest.

Vice President
The vice president is the principal operating officer of the users group and is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the users group.  This position is primarily responsible for the recruitment and management of users group volunteers, including the board of directors.  This position assists the president in the development and execution of board meetings, general (membership) meetings and other users group activities as required.  For the Training Days conference, the vice-president is responsible for organizing the volunteers such as room ambassadors, registration, and airport drivers.

Secretary
The secretary is the executive director of the users group and is responsible for keeping the minutes and records of the users group.  This position is also the custodian of all non-financial records of the users group.  This position is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of all historical records of the users group.

Treasurer
The treasurer is the primary financial officer of the users group and is responsible for ensuring the financial health of the group.  This position is responsible for all financial functions inherent to the business operations of the group.  This position is primarily responsible for the establishment and maintenance of records related to the finances of the users group.

Director of Member Relations
The director of member relations is responsible for the recruitment of new members to the users group and the retention of current group members.  This position is also responsible for overseeing the operation of the users group membership system(s) and projects related to the membership system(s).  This position is also responsible for the establishment and maintenance of non-technical events related to the members of the users group.

Director of Newsletters
The director of newsletters is responsible for the coordination and control of all functions related to the creation, production and distribution of the users group newsletter.  This position is primarily responsible for all managing editor functions as related to the users group newsletter.  This position is responsible for newsletter content, including articles (working with the director of education), columns and advertisements.

Director of Programs
The director of programs is responsible for the coordination and control of all functions related to the users group Meetings (excluding Training Days).  This position is responsible for the establishment, selection, and coordination of meeting programs and presentations, working directly with the director of education to define content, solicit, and secure speakers and other resources required for the program.  This position is also responsible for all meeting logistics.

Director of Training Days
The director of Training Days is responsible for the coordination and control of all functions related to the management and implementation of the users group multi-day Training Days conference and exhibit area.  This position is primarily responsible for conference logistics and conference content.

Director of Marketing
The director of marketing is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors.  This position is primarily responsible for soliciting and securing vendors in the support of users group activities and putting them into contact with users group directors.

Webmaster
The webmaster is for the establishment and maintenance of the users group Web site and facilitating the update of content on the website by other board members and volunteers.

Director of Education
The director of education is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with outside technical resources of interest.  This position is primarily responsible for soliciting and securing technical resources (e.g. speakers and authors) in the support of users group activities.  This position serves as the technical resource “single point of contact” for all users group efforts.

Director of Special Interest Groups
The director of special interest groups (SIG) is responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining special interest groups that may form within the users group.  Special interest groups are normally created when a new “need to learn” surfaces or a need for more focus within a particular technical area is identified.  This position serves as the SIG “single point of contact” for all users group efforts.

Director of Social Media
The director of social media is responsible for establishing and maintaining the organization’s “presence” on social media websites, including but not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Meetup.  This position is primarily responsible for capturing any information pertaining to RMOUG, from internal or external sources, and then posting that information to the communities related to RMOUG on social media sites, with the intent of keeping those communities aware of RMOUG, informed of RMOUG interests and activities, and desiring more contact with RMOUG.

Director of Scholarship
The director of scholarships is responsible for managing, growing, and protecting the Stan Yellott Scholarship Fund and leading the effort to disburse scholarship funds to deserving high-school and undergraduate students from Colorado focusing on information technology studies, according to the by-laws and policies of RMOUG.  This director is responsible for establishing relationships with area universities and secondary schools to facilitate the mission of RMOUG with respect to students and the future of the information technology industry.
