5 MySQL Security Vulnerabilities and What to Do About Them Thursday, April 7, 2016 10 AM EST / 2 PM GMT Although MySQL is one of the most popular databases available and part of the Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Python/Perl (LAMP) stack, security can be a hit or miss affair. Passwords kept in dot files or Bash variables. Other passwords in configuration files. Plus the default MySQL authentication system is, to be nice, a little too promiscuous. If you're managing MySQL databases, you shouldn't miss this webinar to learn more about important MySQL security issues, including: - the five major vulnerability points of a MySQL installation how to buttress the vulnerable points against attack or stupidity - how recent changes in the server product line provide 'secure by default' installation. In this era of containerized or virtualized database instances, it is too easy to leave holes open for attackers. Join us for this exciting live webinar on what you should know about security for MySQL databases, with Dave Stokes, MySQL Community Manager at Oracle, and Janis Griffin, Database Performance Evangelist at SolarWinds.

Data Warehouse Modernization in the Age of Big Data Analytics TDWI Speaker: Philip Russom, TDWI Research Director Date: Thursday, April 14, 2016, 9:00 a.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. ET Webinar Abstract Data warehouses (DWs) and requirements for them continue to evolve. DWs are more relevant than ever, as they support operationalized analytics, and wring business value from machine data and other new forms of big data. Hence, it’s important to modernize a DW environment, to keep it competitive and aligned with business goals, in the new age of big data analytics. Yet, user organizations struggle to stay educated about trends and take the right action to modernize their DW investments. Many users need to catch up by deploying a number of upgrades and extensions to their existing DW environments and by adopting modern development methods. Once caught up, they need a strategy for continuous modernization. The purpose of this Webinar is to accelerate users’ understanding of the many options – both old and new – for modernizing a data warehouse. It will also help readers map newly available technologies, products, and practices to real-world use cases, with a focus on extending the life span, range of uses, and business value of existing warehouses. The content of the Webinar is based on the research findings of a new Best Practices Report by TDWI’s Philip Russom called “Data Warehouse Modernization in the Age of Big Data Analytics.” That report was sponsored by vendor firms IBM, MapR, SAP, SAS, and TimeXtender.

Oracle BI Applications 11g for Database Administrators: Your Relational Relationship with BI People Thu, Apr 28, 2016 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM MDT DBAs are critical to the success of an Oracle BI Applications (OBIA) project. Diligent DBAs manage well-oiled RDBMS architectures, and the introduction of an Oracle BI Applications Analytics and Data Warehousing project usually fits in nicely within that space. There are many Data Warehouse and configuration considerations that even the best Oracle DBAs are not aware of when it comes to Oracle BI Applications installation readiness, configuration, and maintenance. In addition, Oracle BI Applications can be extended with GoldenGate for replication, which adds to a DBA's involvement and ultimately the maintenance thereof. This webinar gives DBAs perspective into the types of unique requests they will be charged with related to the deployment of the Oracle BI Applications solution and Data Warehouse, and other ancillary repositories. Ultimately, this webinar is a DBA checklist for OBIA implementations and a look at how to prepare for handling OBIA lifecycle requirements that impact the DBA. Learning Objectives: 1) To identify and understand the major components of Oracle BI Applications that require the DBA's time and effort 2) To get the best preparation advice for embarking on an Oracle BI Applications installation within the DBA's organization 3) To get the DBA knowledge of how Oracle BI Applications really works and what is needed for a successful project in the OBIA implementation lifecycle
