De-identifying Sensitive Data
Brad Nelson, dataguise

Every day we read about sensitive data being compromised due to lost or stolen laptops and external drives. Why does this continue to happen with all the security products out there? Project Governance: The 21 things every project manager needs to know about the status of their Project. (White paper)

Project Governance: The 21 things every project manager needs to know about the status of their Project. (Power-Point Presentation)

Janet Dahmen, Rolta TUSC

Most project managers establish a routine at the beginning of a project, in which they outline and deliver regular status reports. And while knowing the events of what occurred during the last week are important, this information doesn't represent the real picture about what is happening within your team or the underlying health and welfare of your project. This presentation will talk about the types of information that the every project manager should be tracking in regards to their project; from the effectiveness of monitoring processes to the readiness of your organization. These key information points will provide you a deeper insight into the progress being made; and most importantly, alert you about the areas that have the greatest ability to de-rail your project's success.

Janet Dahmen is a PMI Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with twenty years of Information Technology experience. She has been with TUSC for over fourteen years, managing large implementation teams and key accounts. She regularly performs project audits, providing field-level Project Managers with an objective evaluation of the effectiveness of the project's controlling processes and overall project strength.

Business Analysis Fundamentals

Tiffany Dahlberg PMP, Achievement Consulting & Training, Inc

If I would’ve known that….” Tools to Make Your Job Easier” Every business does "analysis" internally, externally, or both. Business Analysis is a fancy term for identifying problems or opportunities, eliciting the needs and wants of stakeholders, then clarifying and validating those requirements through documentation and communication. The end result is implementing the best solution. It's common but not easy. The most common reason for project failure is lack of proper requirements.

Delivering IT Project On Time and Within Budget

Jennifer McNeil, Unify-CipherSoft

IT projects fail regularly with costs and timelines being difficult to manage. Although companies regularly blame software for the problems incurred with delivery of projects, the real reason they fail is usually due to poor project planning. Due to the economic slowdown, companies are encountering significant problems in obtaining resources and funding for mission critical projects that require delivery in a cost and time efficient manner.  In order to meet the challenges of projects, there are specific strategies that can be applied for success

"IT Investment Management: Projects vs Products and the Secret of Innovation"

Bill Wimsatt, 1783 Productions

Investment is about applying resources to return value higher than the initial resource outlay. Investment in corporate information systems has been a hot topic for the past decade; however, measurement techniques have confused, eluded, and frustrated many IT organizations. One reason is that IT is not a separate business, it is one integral part of a larger business. IT project management needs to take a page from the practice of product management to open the often myopic approach applied. Also, technology delivery teams do not deliver value at just one point in a project. Value is created along the way and this is often not realized and often ignored. This presentation will explore a new way of viewing IT investments, creating business value, and bringing innovation into the fold.

Introduction to Cloud Computing - 101

Jordan Braunstein, Oracle ACE Director - Visual Integrator, Inc.

An Introduction to Cloud Computing, fundamental concepts, principles, benefits, and challenges. The session will start with an overview of Cloud and helping to define what Cloud is, and what it consists of -- a "101" so to speak, so that participants have a firm understanding of Cloud Computing, Software As A Service, and the concepts that make up this new paradigm. We will cover what makes cloud computing unique from its predecessor paradigms and why the industry is so excited about moving companies and data centers into the cloud.

The session will also cover practical approaches to implementing a cloud project, both as a cloud provider or a cloud consumer -- in other words a methodology for "entering the cloud". We will also cover approaches for overcoming challenges, dispelling myths, and how to take incremental steps for getting started with a cloud implementation.

Oracle Database Cross Platform Migration - Combine Incrementally Updated Image copies with RMAN Convert/Transportable Tablespaces

Lucy Feng, Senior Consultant, DBAK

This presentation introduces a solution developed while helping a client migrating 30+ databases from Sun Solaris to IBM Mainframe based Linux. It briefly outlines the business requirements; provides an overview of the two main technologies: Transportable Tablespaces for cross-platform conversion and RMAN incrementally updated image copies for reducing downtime; and steps through the solution. It also addresses the method variation for same Endian format conversion vs. cross-Endian format conversion, and provides recommendations and ideas for minimizing downtime when the databases are large and/or the distance between source and target data center is great.
