De-supported Oracle Forms and Reports Puts Your Company at Risk
Chris Baker, PITSS
What version of Oracle Forms and Reports are you running your custom applications on? If your answer is not 10g Release 2, then you are running on an unsupported technology stack. This means that you are not getting support from Oracle on your software, but even worse you are not getting security patches applied to your environment. This could mean you could be in violation of company or government mandates.

PITSS can assist you if you are going to ADF, APEX, or SOA Enabled application
Chris Baker, PITSS
One of the most difficult obstacles when migrating from Oracle Forms to another technology like APEX or ADF is moving the Business Logic. This is the code used for validation and apply business rules. Most of this code is embedded in triggers and program units within your Forms application.
If this code was located on the Database as Packages, Functions, or Procedures, this would not be a problem. ADF and APEX can easily access these DB Objects. With PITSS.converter €™s Application Engineering module you can relocate this code to the Database automatically. This will eliminate the troublesome conversion of PL/SQL to Java or APEX €™s inability to pull out the Business Logic. And once the code is converted into a DB object, it can be SOA enabled.

Integration with Java, ADF and Web Services
Mike Mullennex, Oracle Corporation
This session shows you more of the integration oriented features Oracle has put into Forms. You will see how to accomplish two-way asynchronous communication with Web services with the help of an Advanced Queuing queue, how to have Forms create and send an SMS text message with the help of Java and how to control JavaScript based UI widgets with very rich, Web 2.0, functionality from Oracle Forms.
Making the Business Case for Migrating to Java
Jennifer McNeill, CipherSoft, Inc
While past versions of Oracle Forms have enabled companies to access the Web, 10g is providing one of the most robust environments thus far. For organizations moving to Java, it is important to understand the benefits and options available to avoid spending IT dollars on an alternative that does not make business sense. |
