Test Drive Oracle Software
Vlamis Software Solutions and RMOUG have partnered with Amazon Web Services to provide to you, free of charge, the opportunity to work, hands-on, with the latest of Oracle’s Business Intelligence offerings. By signing up to one of the labs below, Amazon’s Elastic Cloud Computer (EC2) environment will generate a complete server for you to work with.
The data warehouse experts of Vlamis Software Solutions have been invited to speak to us and bring their hands-on working labs for us to learn. Bring your internet-ready laptops. Can’t bring a portable computer? Not a problem. There will be laptops available for you to use.
These hands on labs are working with the actual Oracle software running on the Amazon Web Services EC2 environment. They each take approximately 2 hours to work through and will give you hands-on experience with the software and a tour of the features.
There will be an initial presentation on these topics then you can get started on the walk through of your choice. There MIGHT be time for you to do both! You can definitely take the materials with you and do the other from your office.
Business Intelligence Choices
This test drive will present a quick overview of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 11g and allow users to create reports and dashboards for themselves. The lab uses version 126.96.36.199.1 of Oracle BI and showcases the following features: adhoc reports, graphs, maps, and color-coding. In addition, this test drive will show you how to use OBIEE’s new map views to reveal location based patterns in business intelligence data sets. You will see how to create new map views, add chloropleth layers, add variable shapes, and display different measures at different zoom layers. You’ll learn how OBIEE can incorporate spatial analytics and integrate large geo-spatial data sets for location based analysis.
Work with Oracle R and Big Data in this useful hands on lab. This test drive walks through some basic exercises on the Big Data Lite Virtual Machine. The Oracle Big Data Lite Virtual Machine provides an integrated environment to help you get started with the Oracle Big Data platform.
Tim Vlamis will start the meeting with a discussion on Oracle’s BI offerings and how these different components all fit together.
These labs will give you a background in Oracle Advanced Analytics (Oracle R Enterprise and Oracle Data Mining) and show how you can easily integrate results obtained using Oracle Advanced Analytics into OBIEE. Bring your computer along so you can work through the exercises with us in this Hands-On Lab.
If your BI application only reports the past, you’re missing out on a major goal of BI systems. BI systems should be forward-looking, so they can inform decisions. In order to do this, you need some sort of analytics, whether they be simple questions like where are we against plan or how does this compare to last year. Or they can be more complex, as in which customer segments provide the greatest possibility for our promotions or what would happen if we realign our territories in a different way?”
In this hands-on lab you will take a predictive model with an advanced R visualization from Oracle R Enterprise, register it for automated execution in the Oracle database, modify OBI repository to include both structured and unstructured data from R (the visualization), and publish the results on an OBIEE dashboard. In all, you will use RStudio, SQL Developer, BI Admin tool, and OBIEE Answers in this comprehensive session.
